Everyone is welcome at the Hare Krishna temple in Lanjipalli, whatever your background or beliefs. If you have never been inside an ISKCON temple, here is what to expect — so that you can relax and enjoy the darshan.
When to come
The temple is open from 4:30 AM to 1:30 PM and again from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Mangala Arati at 4:30 AM is the quietest and most intimate ceremony of the day; the evening Gaura Arati at 7:00 PM is lively, with kirtan that everyone joins. Sunday evening brings the Sunday Love Feast — the best first visit of all.
Inside the temple hall
- Leave your footwear at the racks by the entrance.
- Modest, comfortable clothing is appreciated; there is no strict dress code.
- When the curtains open for arati, devotees stand facing the deities, Sri Sri Radha Radhakanta. Feel free to watch, clap along or sing.
- Photography inside the hall may be restricted, especially during arati — please ask a volunteer first.
Prasadam
After the arati, sanctified food called prasadam is offered to everyone present. It is given freely; simply cup your right hand to receive it. On Sundays a full vegetarian feast follows the programme.
